During this Christmas season, as we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, let's focus once again on His Name, "Immanuel"--"God with us." I pray God will reveal Himself to you in a powerful new way as you worship Him this Christmas.

In honor of our Thanksgiving this week, we will focus our WordStudy on the word "thanksgiving" (i.e. thankful or thanks).

In his book, The Hallelujah Factor, Jack Taylor reminds us that Jehovah “…is the most commonly used designation for God in the Bible. It is used more than 6,800 times! It is derived from the verb of being translated ‘to be’” (50).

WordStudy: Blessed

In Session Two of The Inheritance, Beth Moore reminds us of the “heart of the gospel”—we are “blessed to bless others.”

In Genesis 12: 2, God promises Abram, “I will make you into a great nation and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you…and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.”

God promised to “bless” Abram. And He also promised that He would bless those who blessed Abram, and He would bless others through Abram.”

What does it mean for God to “bless” us? And how can we “bless” someone else? Also, how can God bless others through us?

This week, we’re searching for scriptures with the word “blessed.”

1. Research the word “blessed” or some form of that word (i.e. bless, blessing, etc.) in God’s Word.

2. Choose one of the scriptures you find and write it down; then, read it out loud.

WordStudy: Inheritance

In our introductory session, Beth Moore stated that the word “inheritance" or some form of it (heritage, inherit, etc.) appears over 300 times in the Bible. So, here’s your homework assignment for the first week.

1. Do a word search in God’s Word on the topic of “inheritance” or some form of that word (i.e. heritage, inherit, etc.).

2. Pick one scripture that you find during your search and write in 1-2 sentences about what you think that scriptures means (in your own words).

3. Now, in 2-3 paragraphs, write how you connected to the passage you read—what came to your mind while you were reading it (a personal experience, an example of that truth, an issue for discussion, etc.).

4. Post your answers on our group's discussion board in The City (for those of you who are attending The Inheritance class at The Summit) as a reply to this assignment—“WordStudy: Inheritance.” If you're joining us online, post your reply as a comment to this post (see my sample comment below).

At the end of our 9-week session (for those of you who are attending The Inheritance class at The Summit), there will be a prize for the person who has posted the most WordStudy assigments on our discussion board. And our prize will be more that a pack of gum!

Inheritance: Our Journey Begins

We ran out of books last night at our first meeting for The Inheritance study (a good thing)! We will order more books; so, please come and join us!

A total of 34 women attended our first classes on Wednesday. Five ladies attended the morning session, and 29 attended the class that evening.

On Wednesday, September 30, we will begin The Inheritance Bible study at The Summit Church on Wednesday mornings (9-11 a.m.) and evenings (6:30-8:30 p.m.).

This nine session DVD series by Beth Moore is a topical study of “Inheritance” throughout God's Word.

Leaders. Cynthia Jones and Karen Jordan will lead the Wednesday morning studies. Liz Reeves and Karen Jordan will lead the Wednesday evening studies.
