WordStudy: "The Word"

"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God" (John 1:1).

As we approach this Christmas season and celebrate the birth of Christ, take time to focus on "The Word." May God give you new insight as you search His Word for more truth and revelation about His Son, "The Word."

1. Research "The Word” in God’s Word.

2. Choose one of the scriptures you find and write it down; then, read it out loud.

3. In 1-2 sentences, write what you think the scripture means.

4. In 1-3 paragraphs, try to connect with the scripture. What did you think about as you read the passage? A life experiences (yours or someone else’s)? A life lesson? Another scripture or biblical truth? Something else?

5. Post your insights @ a comment to this blog (*).

  1. My friend, Mark Isbell, shared this thought about "the Word" on Facebook.

"The word "Logos" actually preceded Aristotle by a good 150 years and to the Greeks meant something like "source of the cosmos." If you look at the original Greek of the gospel of John, it is the word Logos that is translated "Word," so he was saying that the "source of the cosmos" became flesh and dwelt among us. This is what is referred to as ... See Morethe incarnation. But I think it works, too, if we think about it in the rhetorical sense. The incarnation was, in a sense, a divine rhetorical move in which Logos was made all the more understandable by becoming flesh (ethos) and dwelling among us (pathos). Perhaps we could say that the Logos became Ethos and dwelt in Pathos among us."

Thanks for sharing your insights with us, Mark!
