WordStudy: Chosen

"...you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you our of darkness into his wonderful light" (1 Peter 2:9 NIV).

This week, your assignment (if you choose to accept it) is to consider the word "chosen." God's Word tell us that as believers in Christ, we are a "chosen" people. What does his Word tell us about the word "chosen"?

1. Research the word “chosen” (choose, chooses, chose) in God’s Word.

2. Choose one of the scriptures you find and write it down; then, read it out loud.

3. In 1-2 sentences, write what you think the scripture means.

4. In 1-3 paragraphs, try to connect with the scripture. What did you think about as you read the passage? A life experiences (yours or someone else’s)? A life lesson? Another scripture or biblical truth? Something else?

5. Post your insights @ a comment to this blog (*).

(*) For those of you who are attending The Inheritance class @ The Summit Church, post your insights @ TheCity on The Inheritance Bible Study Small Group link under “Group Discussion Topics” (WordStudy: Chosen).

And remember, Heiresses @ TSC, at the end of our 9-week session , there will be a prize for the person who has posted the most WordStudy assigments on our discussion board.

  1. “But you, O Israel, my servant, Jacob, whom I have chosen, you descendents of Abraham my friend. I took you from the ends of the earth, from its farthest corners I called you. I said ‘you are my servants’; I have consen you and have not rejected you. So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand’” (Isaiah 41:8-10 NIV).

In these passages, I think God is reminding Israel that He is with them and what than means. He’s reminding them of His protection, what He’s done for them in the past, how He rescued them and brought them back together from being scattered, and how He will never reject them. He’s speaking peace to their fears. And He’s promising them strength, help, and forgiveness.

I’m reminded of the many times that I’ve felt “scattered”—lost in the stress and busy-ness of life. And when I’ve turned to the Lord and trusted Him to guide me through the situation, He’s always pulled me back together, chased away my fears, reminded me of His love and forgiveness, and given me the strength to go on. I think that’s what’s so important to write down what God does in my life—to help me remember what He’s done the next time a storm rolls around.
