"But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well" (Matthew 6:33 NIV)
For this past week (I'm a little late on this one), your assignment is to consider the word “kingdom.”
1. Research the word “kingdom” in God’s Word.
2. Choose one of the scriptures you find and write it down; then, read it out loud.
3. In 1-2 sentences, write what you think the scripture means.
4. In 1-3 paragraphs, try to connect with the scripture. What did you think about as you read the passage? A life experiences (yours or someone else’s)? A life lesson? Another scripture or biblical truth? Something else?
5. Post your insights @ a comment to this blog (*).

“But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well” (Matthew 6:33 NIV).
ReplyDeleteWhen I checked out the context of this passage, I realized that this scripture referred to “things” I often worry about—what I eat, drink, and wear. Yet the passage clearly states that if I seek God’s kingdom first, all these other “things” will be taken care of by the Lord.
Among the many “things” that have worried me in my lifetime, I must admit that food, drink, and clothing have often been close to the top of my list. Why? Probably because of all the emphasis on appearance in our culture. I can’t remember a time in my teen or adult years that I haven’t considered dieting to make me healthier, to look better, and to feel more comfortable in my clothes.
Recently, I’ve considered the truth of this scripture in many areas of my life. And I’ve discovered that when I choose to seek God first about the issues pressing hard on my heart and mind, I don’t seem to worry quite as much about those other “things.”
That doesn’t mean that I don’t still have waves of worry and doubt at times. But now, in those times of panic, I go to the Lord in prayer and confess my worries to Him. And I’m convince that when I turn my worries over to my God—Who created the universe—He will provide the “things” I need and create some order out of my chaos!
